Lyme Disease SymptomsTHERE IS NO GOLD STANDARD TEST TO DETERMINE THE PRESENCE OF THE LYME DISEASE SPIROCHETE. THEREFORE, TESTING BY LOCAL DOCTORS UNFAMILIAR WITH LYME DISEASE INAPPROPRIATELY USE TESTS TO DETERMINE THE EXISTENCE OR NON-EXISTENCE OF THE SPIROCHETE. THIS IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE OF THE INADEQUACY OF THE TESTS, AND THE PREDILICTION OF THE DOCTORS TO RELY ON THESE INAPPROPRIATE AND INACCURATE TESTS, RATHER THAN LISTENING TO YOUR SYMPTOMS, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CDC, AS CAN BE EVIDENCED BY FILLING OUT THE FOLLOWING CHECKLISTS. We suggest that you fill this form out and take it to your physician, and keep a copy for yourself. In addition, it is particularly important to keep a daily calendar of your symptoms, and your morning temperature. You may download the PDF form here.
THERE IS NO GOLD STANDARD TEST TO DETERMINE THE PRESENCE OF THE LYME DISEASE SPIROCHETE. It can change shapes, from a spirochetal shape, to a cellular form, to a non-cellular form. It is closely related to Syphilis, but has been more adaptive in hiding itself. As a result, many patients will find that they need to be on several types of antibiotics to take these different forms into consideration, particularly if you have not been treated quickly or adequately. In addition, if your tick had more than Lyme disease in it, you will most likely be sick longer, so you need to send your tick to a lab which can identify some of the coinfections. REMEMBER: Even the CDC states that Lyme disease can only be identified CLINICALLY, which means by your SYMPTOMS!! NO TEST will tell you definitively whether or not you have Lyme disease. AND, no vaccine has been found to be effective in stemming the tide of this plague, particularly if your tick has more than just Lyme disease in it!! We hope you get treatment promptly, and properly, which is why your local support groups should be most helpful in knowing which doctors understand and regularly treat tickborne illnesses, such as Lyme disease.
